System requirements

Boswell runs transcription and AI summaries entirely on your Mac, using Apple’s on-device speech recognition and Apple Intelligence. These run on the Apple Neural Engine and CPU, which is why Apple Silicon is required.

Boswell requires macOS 26.2 Tahoe or later. Older macOS releases are not supported.

The macOS version requirement exists because Boswell depends on on-device AI features that are only available in recent releases — including Apple’s on-device speech recognition and Apple Intelligence for summaries. The app will not run on macOS versions older than 26.2 Tahoe even on Apple Silicon hardware.

Boswell installs as a standard Mac app (small). It doesn’t bundle or download separate transcription models — macOS provides the on-device speech model and manages it as a system asset, downloaded once when you first transcribe.

Your recordings, transcripts, and notes accumulate on your Mac. How much space that takes depends entirely on how much you record.

Transcription runs in real time on Apple Silicon — even an M1 handles a 60-minute meeting comfortably. Because the work happens on the Neural Engine, it stays fast without pinning your CPU.
