Record your first meeting

Once Boswell is installed and permissions are granted, you’re ready to record. Here’s what the loop looks like from start to finish.

Before you record

There’s almost nothing to set up — transcription runs automatically on your Mac using Apple’s built-in speech recognition, so there’s no model to choose or download.

(Optional) Connect your calendar. Connect Google or Microsoft and your upcoming meetings show up in Boswell, so you can start capture in a click when a meeting begins.

Start a recording

There are two ways to start, depending on the conversation:

Quick Note — for anything not on your calendar. Click New Quick Note from the Boswell window or the menu-bar icon, or press ⇧⌘N. Capture starts right away.
A calendar meeting — if you’ve connected Google or Microsoft, your meetings appear in Boswell and you start capture from the meeting when it begins.

Either way, Boswell captures two audio sources simultaneously:

Microphone — your voice and any in-room audio.
System audio — whatever is playing through your Mac’s speakers: Zoom, Meet, Teams, a voice memo, or any other audio source.

Transcription begins immediately, on your Mac. You don’t need to wait until the end of the meeting — Boswell processes audio in real time. No audio is sent to a server.

While you’re recording

An ON AIR indicator appears in the Boswell window while a capture is running. Boswell transcribes as you go, keeping your side of the conversation distinct from the other side (your mic vs. the audio coming through your speakers).

There’s no progress bar to watch. Boswell keeps capturing while you work in other apps.

Stop the recording

Click Stop in the Boswell window, or open the menu-bar icon and choose Stop, to end the session.

What you get

When you stop, Boswell turns the recording into a note, stored on your Mac inside Boswell. The note contains:

Summary — generated on-device by Apple Intelligence.
Key points, decisions, and action items — extracted from the conversation, on-device.
Transcript — the full conversation, with your side and the other side kept distinct.

The recording’s audio is kept with the note so you can play it back later.

Finding and editing your note

Your note lives in Boswell — open it from the Home list to read or edit. You can edit the text directly. You can also export the note as a plain .md file and open it in Finder or any text editor.
