What stays on-device
Boswell ships with every cloud feature off. Recording, transcription, and summarization all run on your Mac. Nothing leaves the machine unless you turn on an optional cloud feature.
The default data path
Section titled “The default data path”When you record a meeting, here is where each piece of data goes:

Nothing in that list touches a server — none of it needs a network connection.
Optional cloud features (off by default)
Section titled “Optional cloud features (off by default)”A few features can reach the network, but only if you turn them on — for example, connecting your own AI provider for summaries instead of the on-device model. When you do, traffic goes straight from your Mac to that provider (never through a Boswell server), and you can switch it back off at any time.
Your files are yours
Section titled “Your files are yours”Recordings, transcripts, and notes live on your Mac, in Boswell’s local storage. If you turn on Markdown export, plain-text copies also land in a folder you choose — open them in any editor, with or without Boswell. If you cancel your subscription, your data stays exactly where it is.
