Troubleshooting

No system audio (Zoom, Teams, Meet not captured)

Section titled “No system audio (Zoom, Teams, Meet not captured)”

Boswell captures system audio through macOS’s system-audio recording permission. If system audio from video calls is missing from your transcripts, that permission is likely not granted.

Fix:

  1. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security and find Boswell under the system-audio recording permission.
  2. Make sure Boswell is listed and the toggle is on.
  3. Quit and reopen Boswell.

If the permission is already on but audio is still missing, try toggling it off and back on, then restart Boswell.

Microphone not captured (your voice missing)

Section titled “Microphone not captured (your voice missing)”

If the transcript is missing your voice — you can hear other participants but not yourself — the Microphone permission may not be granted.

Fix:

  1. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone.
  2. Make sure Boswell is listed and the toggle is on.
  3. Restart Boswell.

On-device transcription is compute-intensive while it’s catching up to live audio. It runs in real time on Apple Silicon, but a heavily loaded Mac can fall behind.

Things to try:

  • Close other CPU-heavy apps while recording.
  • Make sure your Mac is plugged in — macOS throttles performance on battery under load.
  • If transcription stalls, quit Boswell fully (Cmd+Q) and reopen.

See System requirements for the minimum hardware Boswell needs.

Boswell uses the Sparkle framework to deliver updates. If an update isn’t installing:

  • Check Boswell → Check for Updates to trigger a manual check.
  • Make sure your Mac has a network connection — Sparkle fetches the update manifest from meetboswell.com/appcast.xml.
  • If an update downloads but fails to install, try quitting Boswell fully (Cmd+Q, not just closing the window) and reopening — Sparkle installs some updates on next launch.
  • If the problem persists, download the latest .dmg directly from meetboswell.com and install it by dragging to Applications.
